References 217 [free_reading] => Dear teacher: The basic objective of this book is to guide your students, via the development of a series of inter-connected strategies for reading English texts, in how to demonstrate that they have fully understood their content. Relevant strategies for the development of the reading process are included in all the activities. The stages of pre-reading, reading and post-reading are taken into account in every unit as well. We, the authors, suggest that you as teacher should establish, according to the knowledge you have about your students, the most suitable way for them to work with the book in the classroom (i.e. individually, in pairs or in teams). We also suggest you to support and help your students to improve their strategies for reading English texts by answering questions they might have about syntax and lexis. We have tried to combine the most suitable aspects from intensive reading (looking for detail with specific learning aims and tasks) and extensive reading (understanding written texts for enjoy-ment while developing general reading skills). Thus we say this book is based on an intensive-extensive reading approach. While deciding which texts and complementary images to include in this book we took into ac-count the various interests that students might have. This way the arrangement would be relevant and attractive to you. Please, feel free to reuse the texts if you think they might work better with other kind of strategies and/or questions. Some of them like "Intelligence", "Elephants", "Guide horses" and "Photography" are suitable for extra work.
